A False Position index
[R] Major angst, with some sex.
Introduction
Good intentions and wilful deceit clash, as they're bound to do, in a tale
that's rather long and self-indulgent to some degree. It begins with an ironic
twist of fate catching Holmes and Watson unawares and leading to a rather unusual
relationship developing between them. Over the years they are also not entirely
honest with the public about who they are and what they feel, placing themselves
in a "false position" both in print and in private.
Other inspirations for this story are Rex Stout and a phrase from SCAN:
"as a lover he would have placed himself in a false position." Also, a warning:
the Comments section on this page might slightly spoil the plot of this tale,
so you should probably wait until after the story to read the Comments.
Part 7 (with revision to Part 6) added 18 February, 2002.

Normally the story text would go here. However, since A False Position is so
long, I've broken it up into parts that are linked to this index, and to each
other:
Now there's a
guestbook
from which I will copy the comments on the slash fiction. Sample
comments would look like this:
[Author]; [subject]; [date] [message text]
Wouldn't you wanna know?; A False Position; 23 Dec 2001 I know this is a Slash page (I do like many of the other stories) but
I really hope you make a sequel that will get Holmes and Helena togheter,
as a man and woman fully and completely.
Cress; A False Position; 24 Dec 2001 Well, I always from the beginning of the site was going to welcome
gender-switch fic here, and I've already posted the Holmes ones before.
I've got nothing against the idea of it.
I do want to continue my story onward, but,
I think I'll have to disappoint you to some degree. A simple happy ending
couldn't work with how far things have gone, and Helena rehabilitating
herself as a woman while still having Holmes's authentic desire is like
having your cake and eating it too. Would take some more self-indulgence
and stretch of the imagination.
Plus, there's also the fact that I'm invariably
tardy in writing add-ons and sequels. Thanks for liking the story anyway.
It's a weird little thing.
